I abhor vivisection with my whole soul. I detest the unpardonable slaughter of innocent life in the name of science, and of humanity so-called, and all the scientific discoveries stained with innocent blood I count of no consequence.

Slaughter of the Innocent
By Hans Ruesch
seventh edition published by Slingshot 2003
Originally published in 1978, 450 pages, 210mmx140mm, softback.

Slaughter of the Innocent was the book that awakened the world to the scientific fraud of vivisection. It had been unavailable in New Zealand for several years - until now. Slingshot Publications has issued the seventh English language edition of Hans Ruesch's book, which was first published in 1978. With a new preface by Marco Mamone Capria and Martin J. Walker, this edition has a slightly larger typeface than previous editions but retains the page layout (ensuring continuity of references).
The 450 pages (including index) describes what vivisection is, provides a section of chilling examples of vivisection and another section on the intellectuality and mutual compassion shown by animals. Ruesch then presents a brief look at the history of medicine and how its progress has been hampered by vivisection. This is backed up by quotes and references from doctors and medical journals. Cancer, vaccines, surgery and pharmaceuticals are all dealt with, and the harmful effects for humans from animal experiments are highlighted.
The publisher's promotional material states that:
"Slaughter of the Innocent is a book which will not be outdated until vivisection in all its forms is ended".
All who claim to be anti-vivisectionists should read (or have already read) this book, and those who aren't yet anti-vivisectionists will likely be persuaded of the fraud of animal experiments when they read it.

Animal Experimentation - A Harvest of Shame
By Moneim A. Fadali, M.D
Published by Hidden Springs Press, 1996
234 pages, A5, well-indexed, softback.

In rhythmic, almost Shakespearian, prose, surgeon Moneim Fadali walks us through 2,000 years of medical history to show that sacrificing animals at the altar of medical science has done nothing to advance, and much to retard, the growth of modern medical procedures and knowledge. He interweaves his own experience of medicine - including vivisection-facilitated surgical disasters - in a way that is at once personal and highly credible. this book deserves the widest possible readership."
