This cat is a courtesy posting for the Tisdale vet. You can reach him through us. Here is Charlie’s story Charlie is a handsome 7 year old orange tabby tom cat needing a loving home in which to spend his retirement. Charlie was rescued from a cage in someone’s back yard where he had resided for the seven years of his life. The cage was like a rabbit hutch it that it was low off the ground with wooden sides. There was a light bulb for heat. There was little room for Charlie to do the usual fun cat stuff, e.g. run, play, leap, snuggle with humans or other cats. He was all alone. Charlie is a social creature and he was starting to give up when we found him. Charlie’s fur was saturated with urine, his bones were sticking out and his harness was cutting into his body because he had long outgrown it. The cage did not have water for Charlie and it was caked in excrement and saturated with urine. The fumes from the urine nearly made us wretch. Charlie had endured 7 years of torture and the vet said it would be kind to euthanise him because he only had about 6 months to live. We did not because we felt Charlie was owed some good days. Charlie had to have most of his teeth removed – they were rotten and causing him a lot of pain. Now he eats only wet food and has gained a healthy body weight. The harness was removed and the open sores have healed. His fur has even started growing back! The best part is that Charlie is now a happy cat. He leaps and runs as though there’s no tomorrow. He doesn’t take those simple cat pleasures for granted, including snuggling with his human companions on their laps, shoulders, wherever he can find himself a spot to cuddle. We love Charlie so much because he is such a sweetheart. He’s a real fighter to have endured those awful years and still want to snuggle with humans. The vet has done some blood work and they can see that Charlie is showing early signs of mild kidney disease. However, rather than months to live, Charlie may have years to live because he is not showing any outward signs of illness. In fact, he is so happy to be alive he is positively glowing, especially his emerald green eyes! Charlie deserves to spend his old age in a life of luxury, e.g. affection giving human companions, wet food, warmth and shelter. Charlie is up to date with his vaccinations, is house trained and neutered. Are you the special person Charlie needs for his second chance?
