If it has a pulse, it deserves respect

Re: "A plague of rats is coming," letter, March 9. For most of my life, I have been enjoying wildlife and treating it with respect. My kids were brought up to realize we have taken over the habitat of most of these creatures. We are the interlopers, not them.
In the past 40-plus years, none of us has been bitten or traumatized by squirrels or any other creature. We always put anything with a pulse and a face above a backyard of flowers or veggies.
It's our belief that the only "grey menace" in Victoria is the senior who wants a little piece of paradise wildlife-free and will shoot a deer for eating bulbs or use any scare tactic to get rid of them.
