TEULON, Man. - A self-described animal lover has been fined $15,000 after she left nearly two dozen dogs to starve at a Manitoba farmhouse.

Cheryl Lukasik, 49, had pleaded guilty to two counts of not providing food and water to the dogs and three counts of failing to provide them with proper medical attention.

Court heard Lukasik, a resident of Winnipeg Beach, Man., kept the animals at a farm property near Inwood she and her husband owned but did not live at. The dogs included huskies, Rottweilers, Lab crosses and several puppies.
