VANCOUVER I Another 23 cattle may have been exposed to the same feed as a B.C. cow that tested positive for mad cow disease.

The 23 animals have been quarantined and will be tested.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says a number of the animals were exported to the U.S.

Canadian and American officials are collaborating to trace any remaining cattle.

The agency says finding more cases of BSE in the animals exposed to possibly-contaminated feed is unlikely.

Officials know one of the sick cow's most recent calves died previously.

They're still trying to determine what happened to a second calf.

As part of the feed probe, the inspection agency is looking for contamination that may have been there during manufacturing, transportation, and storage of the feed or feed ingredients.

The case, involving a six-year-old cow on a farm in the Abbotsford-area was confirmed Easter Sunday.

The CFIA isn't identifying the farm because of privacy concerns.

BSE is linked to more than 150 human deaths worldwide, mostly in Britain, from a deadly human nerve disorder, variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.
