VANCOUVER - Hazina the hippo didn't have its day in court Tuesday.

The Greater Vancouver Zoo in Aldergrove was charged with cruelty to animals after allegedly keeping the two-year-old hippo alone in a windowless shed, with a pool so shallow she couldn't float.

A lawyer for the zoo had the case put over until July 31. The charge, which followed an investigation by the Vancouver Humane Society, was laid at the end of May.

Hazina was recently moved to a new enclosure, and zoo marketing manager Jody Henderson said Tuesday the hippo is settling in well.

"She's loving her heated, indoor pool," Henderson said.
