The Vancouver parks board has delayed a review of conditions under which the Vancouver Aquarium can bring new whales and dolphins into its Stanley Park facility.

The review was proposed after a dispute between parks board staff and the aquarium over the importation of a Pacific white-sided dolphin last October.

The importation of whales and dolphins into Vancouver parks is only allowed under certain conditions.

The board last night decided to delay the review of importation guidelines until September, when the board will also decide whether to go ahead with public consultation surrounding a bid to increase the size of the aquarium.

The aquarium is expected to import more dolphins if the $80-million expansion gets the go-ahead.
