Brian Payton has tentatively confirmed that he will do a reading and presentation on Aug 16th from 12noon to 1pm in the Deep Cove area

Dear Bear Friends,

I wanted to let you know that my website it running again but I am still working on up-dates and comment sections.

There are two interesting items below that have come up recently and I will be posting on www.bearmatters.com along with other updates etc…:

‘Shadow of the Bear’; Travels in Vanishing Wilderness by Brian Payton has just been published(06) by Viking Press in Canada and Penguin in US. Excellent non-fiction book about all 8 bear species in the world and their specific situations. It is available in bookstores now! Brian Payton has tentatively confirmed that he will do a reading and presentation on Aug 16th from 12noon to 1pm in the Deep Cove area. Pls mark your calendars and let me know if you are interested in attending this event so I can book the right size venue. It will probably be a brown bag lunch affair. Stay tuned.

National Geographic has a Webcam now running of the grizzlies at the MacNeill River so you now don’t have to travel thousands of kilometers to watch and learn about grizzlies in the wild. Go to: http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/wildcamgrizzlies/video_gallery.html and watch the various clips they have to view.

There is increasing bear activity on the North Shore and elsewhere now. One orphan cub and one yearling cub in Deep Cove area have authorities looking for them….one slated for rehab in Langley (who have 4 cubs at present) and one, hopefully, relocation(young male). I have been away so have not checked with other municipalities in Lower Mainland to their specific bear activity.

Cheers,

Barb M.
