I am responding to a recent article promoting a fundraiser for Ducks Unlimited (DU). It is very important to research any organization before supporting it with your hard earned dollars and good intentions. The DU mandate is to conserve the wetlands for their own "recreation" which is to hunt ducks and other waterfowl. Their website: www.ducksunlimited.com has more information about hunting and hunting related products including guns, instead of their public emphasis on wetland conservation. Click on hunting on the DU website's menu selection and the first paragraph reads "participation in waterfowl hunting fuels the passion of many DU members to give something back to the resources that make their outdoor experience so enjoyable. DU was founded by a group of waterfowl hunters more than 65 years ago and today 90 percent of DU members are hunters. The community of DU supporters has spurred a unique lifestyle that revolves around a passion for waterfowl hunting, and other outdoor activities. DU celebrated this lifestyle and explores the role of hunters in conservation"....
There are many environmental and natural habitat protection organizations that operate unselfishly and with integrity to protect and conserve our land for the wildlife, the natural beauty and for future generations; for all the right reasons.
