Local rockers will pluck, strum and howl for the Coquitlam Animal Shelter this weekend.

Country/rock band FERA, fronted by identical twin singers Stephanie and Courtney Fera, organized the three band jam with partial proceeds going to the shelter.

Both sisters volunteer at the shelter, and said they've seen the need to raise funds and spread the word about the good work done there.

"It's a great shelter because they have a no kill policy, and they always need help," Stephanie said. "While raising some money for our bands we wanted to raise money for them too."

FERA raised money for the shelter last year, and want to make the event an annual affair.

Along with FERA, indie rock band The Day Release Program, and funky guitar man Rocky Jr. will play, starting at 4 p.m.

A representative from the Coquitlam Animal Shelter will be on hand to raise awareness, and there will be a number of door prizes and games.

The event takes place Sunday at the John B. Pub, 1000 Austin Ave., Coquitlam, from 4-8 p.m.
