The irony: And serving veggie burgers does not mean that chickens "aren't" being served

There may be a few people in the world unaware of the cruelty that all factory farmed animals suffer, both the way they are raised and the way they are slaughtered. But there can't be an excuse for an animal welfare society not knowing.

From http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming_chickens_flesh.asp

"Chickens are arguably the most abused animal on the planet. Each year in the United States, 9 billion chickens are killed for their flesh, and 245 million hens are raised for their eggs. Ninety-nine percent of these animals spend their lives in total confinement— from the moment they hatch until the day they are killed."

The irony of serving a species of bird that suffers more than any other, to get money for the welfare of "your" bird species, is breathtaking. It's no different than serving pork to raise funds for pig rescue or serving dog meat to raise funds for dog rescue.

The fact that veggie burgers are part of the menu does not somehow how mean that suffering chickens are not really being served. One does not cancel out the other in a sort of feat of legerdemain. You can only not serve chicken by not serving chicken.

Maybe I'll serve feral cat burgers to raise money for spay/neuter. After all, cats taste like chicken
