Nightingale doesn't get it
To the editor:
Re: "Protesters part of worldwide event to stop 'Japanese dolphin slaughter,'" Sept. 22.
Just as people have spoken out against zoos, they now speak out against the injustice of keeping these mammals in close confinement, performing tricks they are taught through a reward-abstinence program.
Mr. Nightingale, the executive director of the Vancouver Aquarium, should be reminded that the group of people who attack the expansion includes a groundswell of silent people who oppose whales in captivity and consider it morally abhorrent.
