Leave your smelly dog at home?

Your Province

Would you tie kids to a post? Then why dogs?

I was upset while reading Ashley Funk's letter about how people should leave their smelly pets at home (Oct. 18).

It is sad to think that someone would even suggest that people who own a dog just leave them tied to a pole outside a business -- or that they be left at home by themselves for long periods of time.

And this is after the writer claims to "personally love dogs."

I don't think so!

Not all dogs are smelly or yappy. And even those that are have every right to be taken to the store with their owner.

As for doggie daycare, I am not going to pay $25 or more every time I have to go run an errand just so that some people are not offended by my dog's presence.

I have been to supermarkets where there are children running up and down the aisles, or banks where children are screaming and crying.

Should they be tied to a post outside just so that some people are not inconvenienced?

People who do not have the joy of owning a dog should open their minds.

Not every dog bites, not every dog smells and not everybody treats their dog as a fashion accessory.

Dogs vs. people

Letter

I do not know where Ashley Funk eats, but I have never taken my dogs into an eating establishment.

I have never had dog hair in my food, but I have had human hair.

I would like to ban some people from stores who stink and are unclean, but put their hands on the bulk food.

I would rather be with dogs than some people, because they give unconditional love. People don't.

My dogs are not an "accessory." They are part of my family.
