A monkey taught me it all by peeing on my head

I arrived in Vancouver in 1978.
Naively, I went to the zoo for an "outing."
A monkey taught me it all by peeing on my head.
I jumped back, spluttering, and wiped off my glasses for a better look.
The misery and suffering of the caged animals, made an instant non-zoo goer out of me.
No, it wasn't the pee, it was the fact that I could ride my bike to the zoo, enjoy my life, enjoy my freedom, and these animals lived their entire lives in squalid, constricting conditions, limited to such petty amusements as peeing on the stupid humans.
Animalasium - fun for who? No one.

Animals as "education" - The motive? Money. The message? Cruel confinement is okay *LINK*
I wonder what teachers would think when they are trying to escape their confinement in the school building, if the doors were locked
Remember when it was called the Vancouver Game Farm?
"Huge" and "fun" are two words that could never be used to describe the GV zoo's current monkey cages

20 years ago? Many cages are a lot older than that in other facilities!
