No dog or cat should be outside 24/7 in this weather PERIOD

Letter to the Editor

No dog or cat should be outside 24/7 in this weather PERIOD. I personally have rescued and had to euthanise a kitten and a cat which were frozen beyond salvage at the Veterinarian our Spay/Neuter Society uses, and despite 24 hr care needed to be euthanised due to unresolvable distress. The kitten was a heartbreaker, which I personally cared for at my home every hour.

Dogs with thin coats also suffer immeasurably in this weather ( some die) and should not ever be left outside, insulated dog house or not. ( What does insulated mean to the average person? Does a huge open door on the dog house not let in the freezing cold? The igloos they sell are like little freezers keeping the cold in).

I really hope you write another article and get in touch with others who genuinely care about animals in your area.

There are Animal Welfare groups out there who actually educate and do not sugar coat their words so as not to offend potential donators or to ensure there is not an influx of complaint calls to be dealt with. Feel free to contact me if you would like names and contact information to true Animal Welfare groups.

Yours sincerely,
Carol Sonnex
