PETITION AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY GARNERS 41,806 SIGNATURES!
Dec. 6, 2006
Didsbury, AB

The animal cruelty case that inspired Didsbury resident Tamara Chaney to initiate a cross-Canada petition calling for a more serious penalty against people who cruelly abuse animals has garnered the support of more than 41,000 Canadians!

Daisy-Duke, the canine victim this past August, was so severely injured that she was immediately euthanized following inspection by a veterinarian. Chaney was moved to begin the Petition, supporting Bill C-373, following this incident, a movement that quickly spread to the rest of Canada. “I’m overwhelmed by the signature support shown. It’s proof that Canadians will stand together to see changes to the animal cruelty act implemented” Chaney, the 29 yr old groom stated.

Court dates for the two accused men are Dec 7th and 11th.

Chaney will be submitting the Petition sheets to MP Myron Thompson for Presentation to Parliament in the New Year. She also notes that collected signature sheets can be mailed anytime from now up until the first week of Jan for counting.

Tamara also has a website for Petition helpers and Bill C-373 supporters to meet, discuss issues, share information and collaborate efforts. Please go to http://groups.msn.com/StopAnimalCrueltyBillC373 for more info on how to help.

If this Bill were to Pass it would be the first significant changes to the Animal Cruelty Act since 1892. Implementation of the Bill would have no impact on hunting, fishing, or any other normal activities involving animal control and husbandry.
