No "animal welfare" agency is forced to accept all animals *LINK*

"Forward thinking and research on how to help "Build a Bond for Life" between pets and their families led the N.O.A.H. Animal Adoption Center's Board of Directors to our overall philosophy.

Rather than duplicating the traditional shelter philosophy of accepting every surrendered animal only to become overcrowded and forced to euthanize - we are taking a new approach. We assist animals in the most desperate need of help - the animals that have run out of time at other shelters and are facing death. By working cooperatively with area animal shelters and only accepting pets directly from their facilities, we give animals on death-row another chance at life."

AAS comment: The N.O.A.H. center's philosophy of limited surrender is not rocket science. The dots were connected probably a hundred years ago but certainly in the last few decades it has been repeated many times by animal welfarists that unlimited surrender = a lot of killing. But there are some interesting lapses in logic in the statement above:

First: No agency is "forced" to kill animals except public pounds which exist to dispose of dangerous dogs and unwanted animals.

Second: Any agency that accepts all animals knows that it will have to kill or otherwise quickly unload the unsellable ones, or go broke. But no "animal welfare" agency is forced to accept all animals. There is a reason for unlimited surrender at some animal welfare agencies that has nothing to do with compassion. Full "shelters" attract donations and quick turnover means space is made for new product to buy. Unlimited surrender assures that there is always new product being delivered daily by pet dumpers.

Third: that killing the excess, the unsold, the treatably ill, and the badly behaved is not "euthanasia" and is not animal welfare. Until real animal welfarists stop calling killing for space "euthanasia", and places that kill "shelters", the pet disposal industry is going to go on fooling a lot of people.

Words can be used to reveal or hide. Animals are being betrayed by the deliberate or the unthinking misuse of words.
