Animals and Society Institute: International Compassionate Living Conference

We are very pleased to announce our complete program for the 2007 International Compassionate Living Festival, the conference we co-produce with Tom Regan and the Culture and Animals Foundation. It will take place October 5-7 in North Carolina.

This year's event is called "Becoming the Change," after the Mahatma Gandhi quote that says that "We must be the change we wish to see in the world."

As always, we will bring together notable authors, academics, activists and artists united for positive social and political change on behalf of animals worldwide.

Our conference complements other animal rights events by presenting timely topics with particular emphasis on history, philosophy, sociology and psychology. It is designed to allow for maximum attendee interaction and networking.

We hope you will join us this year for what promises to be yet another successful collaboration with CAF. The program addresses a wide range of topics, and is conducted within an atmosphere of respectful discussion and earnest enlightenment.

See below for details!

"Becoming the Change"
Our 2007 conference will take place October 5-7 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina.

This year's keynote speaker will be Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, who has spent the first part of this year (as he has many other years) confronting whaling ships in Antarctica and seal killers in Canada. His crew's tireless – and fearless – efforts to stop the slaughter of marine mammals truly exemplifies one way of "becoming the change" the world needs.

The conference will feature both individual speakers and panel discussions addressing such topics as bird flu, animals in zoos and aquariums, activist civil liberties, primate research, companion animals, and political activism.

We will also feature special presentations that examine animal rights history and the role of animals in world religions.

As an interesting change of pace, we will open the conference on October 5 with a "Vegan Chic" showcase that highlights how veganism has become more prominent and popular in mainstream society.

Please visit our conference web site and learn more about this great event! We are again offering student scholarships and free childcare in addition to five vegan meals.

Online registration is easy, our rates are the same as last year, and we welcome additional sponsors and exhibitors!
