RE: BC SPCA LAWSUIT

Dear SPCA Board Members,

On behalf of the members and supporters of the Coalition For No Whales In Captivity, I am writing because we believe that there must be a serious confusion in regards to which organizations the BC SPCA is suing.

Surely you understand that the volunteers of the Animal Advocates Society are performing a valuable service for companion animals. The fact that these volunteers criticize how some things are run at the SPCA, only means that AAS has the animals’ best interest in mind when they attempt to help the SPCA change for the better.

No doubt your donors are not happy to see that their donations are being spent on this kind of nonsensical lawsuit against a small volunteer group. Surely the SPCA is not getting any public brownie-points for going after AAS. To us, everything points to this just being one big misunderstanding on your part and we urge you to please correct this mistake at once.

The organization that the BC SPCA should be taking to court is not the AAS for trying to help the animals, it’s the Vancouver Public Aquarium for torturing whales and dolphins.

In 1995, then Vancouver SPCA Executive Director Michael Weeks issued a press release stating that the SPCA should charge the Vancouver Aquarium with cruelty to animals for the fact that whales suffer when kept confined in those puddles in Stanley Park.

My group would be very happy to help the BC SPCA do their job, please your donors and confront the real enemy of animals in Vancouver, the aquarium - not the AAS.

If interested, we would be pleased to provide you with more information on the cruelty of keeping whales and dolphins in captivity. It would be good to work with the SPCA again to stop organizations that mistreat animals, not the ones who actually try to save them.

Sincerely,

Annelise Sorg, President
