Big Heart Rescue has brought 32 cats and kittens out of Bella Bella this week, yes you read it correctly...32 cats and kittens in one week! In the last 10 months over 100 cats and kittens have made their way into the care of an amazing network of animal welfare providers who give freely from their hearts!

Our focus on sterilization in the communities of Bella Bella and Denny Island will see our organization bringing out female cats at approximately 3 per week until we can spay the vast majority of these darling critter's yet this comes at a huge financial cost of approximately $100.00 per cat for spaying, vaccination, de-worming, de-fleaing and testing to ensure they are healthy.

Big Heart Rescue pays for all needed medical treatment for these cats (a projected monthly expenditure of approximately $1200.00) and thankfully our Cat Team partners, Richmond Animal Protection Society, Katie's Place, CARES, Happy Cat Haven, and Action for Animals in Distress make room for these kittens and cats who are at great risk from dogs, starvation and wildlife in these isolated communities.

We are blessed to have Judy from RAPS as the Cat Team Coordinator and she spends countless hours on arranging transport, pick-up, foster homes and finds open spaces for all the felines who need a safe spot while awaiting their new families.

Our RCMP partner's are working at a fast and furious pace with the Chief and Council, the Bella Bella by-law committee and community members to end the cycle of unwanted litters of kittens and homeless cats.
