Stop the Dolphin Slave Trade!

On May 27th, 2007 at approximately 7:30 pm the Pacific white-sided dolphin obtained from Japan and named Hanna had a second still-birth at the Vancouver Aquarium. Her last still-birth was June 2006.

Another death of a dolphin at the Vancouver Aquarium should stop the proposed Aquarium expansion that would increase the number of dolphins in captivity and lead to more suffering and deaths. More pools means more dolphin deaths.

“This is the 33rd death of a dolphin at this Aquarium. The Aquarium’s so-called breeding program is a failure,” stated Peter Hamilton, Lifeforce Founding Director, “At a time when Vancouver City Council is banning ownership of exotic animals the barbaric aquarium practise of imprisoning exotic marine life should be banned.”

On May 28th the Vancouver Parks Board should not approve expansion plans designs. Did the Vancouver Aquarium pass an Environmental Impact Study because it is located in a Federal park? The plans will not only cause more suffering and death of marine wildlife but would also destroy precious Stanley Park land.

Your Federal/Provincial Politicians

The Vancouver Aquarium Expansion would be at least $80 million and 50% - 1½ acres more public parkland. Tell them to oppose it in order to stop the suffering of cetaceans, the imprisonment of more zoo captives and the destruction of Stanley Park green space.
