GLOBAL NATIONAL’S KEVIN NEWMAN LOOKS AT CANADA’ S REAL RECORD ON ANIMAL RIGHTS IN REVEALED: NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS

Thank you to Tywla Francois of CETFA for all of her amazing undercover documentary and ongoing work.

Kevin Newman deals with another hot issue: Do animals have any rights in Canada? That’s a question he poses in the latest instalment of the ‘Revealed’ documentary series, produced by 90th Parallel Productions for Global Television. NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS examines Canada’s deplorable record on animal welfare and looks at the people who are fighting to bring about much-needed change. It’s part of Global Television’s summer documentary series ‘Currents’ and will be telecast on Wednesday, July 28 at 10PM.

“The issue of how we treat our animals is a visceral one and the reality of what’s been happening in this country isn’t easy to take,” Kevin Newman said. “I believe this is a subject that doesn’t get enough attention and the impetus for the ‘Revealed’ series with 90th Parallel is to provide a platform to illuminate issues in an incisive way. I certainly hope we’ve succeeded with this important topic.” Newman narrates this film and co-wrote and co-produced.

Without being unnecessarily graphic, NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS exposes Quebec’s notorious puppy mills and examines the mistreatment of animals raised for food. We see the gestation crates where animals spend their entire lives confined in standing positions, and overcrowded abattoir-bound trucks where livestock can go for days without food or water.

It all happens because Canada has very outdated, ineffectual laws protecting animals and when cruelty charges are made, they are often dismissed. “In Canada animals are property,” explains one activist. Our legal standards protecting animals lag far behind the European Union or California, for example, where major steps have been taken to protect animals and enhance their lives.

This documentary introduces viewers to some of the people who are fighting to bring about change in this country. There’s Nicole Joncas challenging the Quebec courts to close their horrific puppy mills, or Twyla Francois, armed with an undercover camera, campaigning vigorously to bring attention to the mistreatment of farm animals. We meet Canada’s first lawyer to specialize in animal law, and a new, young generation dedicated to the fight to improve the lives of animals through legal and educational means. NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS is a documentary that will enlighten and enrage you. And will leave you wondering how humane our society really is.

NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS is directed by Karen Pinker. It is produced by 90th Parallel Productions Ltd in association with Canwest. Gordon Henderson is executive producer.

(CANADA) REVEALED: NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS is a documentary revealing the deplorable conditions of animal welfare in Canada. The Documentary will be telecast on JULY 28 at 10:00 pm on Global TV.
Full Press Release Here.

It is said that Quebec is 100 years behind the rest of Canada on the treatment of animals. That Canada is 100 years behind the United States and that the USA is at least 100 years behind Europe for the humane treatment of animals.

Until this point there has been little evidence of the horrors of Canadian (and small) Farming as it is all so well concealed and because there are virtually no laws and implementation to protect even the most basic rights of animals.

This new documentary directed by Karen Pinker by 90th Parallel Productions and hosted by Kevin Newman of Global Television reveals what we have known, but been unable to prove. Thank you to Twyla Francois for her undercover footage of this very difficult and graphic cruelty. On Wednesday July 28th Global National News will reveal their stunning 1 hour documentary on the confinement and cruel treatment of animals across Canada from puppy mills to chicken farms. The documentary is not graphic, but thought provoking: Watch the Trailer of No Country for Animals Here.

As a Nation that promotes peace, freedom and inclusion it is truly stunning that Canada does not defend the rights of it's weakest and most vulnerable intelligent beings under it's Humane Laws. Personally I believe this is a combination of factors far too complex too describe. But to be curt and blunt; Canada was founded by settlers and foreigners destined to rape the vast Canadian landscape of her beauty: fur bearing animals such as beavers and otters where decimated in order to send their skins back to England to make hats and coats. European financing requested that the beautiful natural abundance be slaughtered and used in a state of unbound greed. Somehow these concepts have become ingrained into the conscious mind of Canadians: through the Commercial Seal Hunt, trophy bear hunting, over fishing, over logging, over farming and over mining we can perceive a little of what is valued in Canadian Law, Ethics, Parliamentary decisions and Cultural Traditions. Canada, for hundreds of years has viewed sentient beings as raw resources and this deeply affects how animals in Canada are treated today.

Perhaps time will change this unfavourable perception of animals. However, it is time for Canadians to speak up as part of their democratic process and tell the government that we do not wish to live in a Country where it's most vulnerable are not protected. "The greatness of a Nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated: (Mahatma Gandhi). And there is a small and very determined group of individuals who want to change the way the world views animals and we shall see this through. As Margaret Mead says: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

The beautiful quote by Alice Walker stated that "The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for me." These I words I personally live by. The slavery and use of these sentient beings is the last frontier to an inclusive rather than exclusive view of equality in our world. The effects of this radical change in our systemic belief system will ripple across human consciousness and Grace will touch the human heart in a flowering of deep gratitude for all life. The last of the violent state of mind that includes aggression and oppression as a natural way of functioning in our society will be so deeply eroded from the surface of our consciousness that it is possible and hopeful that it may never surface again.

Thank you for having the courage to read and witness the truth, no matter where you are at this moment in time. You are changing the world today for the future of equality for all by your simple awareness and your desire to discover the truth of your own heart. That is the path to All Equality and All Grace. Let us include and extend the meaning of "all" to "All." "All" beings that we share this world with, not just our (human) selves. Keep these words close to your hearts and know your awakening is also part of that conscious change for "All."
