No Whales In Captivity urging referendum since 1994

Since 1994, No Whales In Captivity has unsuccessfully lobbied the
Vancouver Park Board to hold a Whale Referendum. That's the last 5
Vancouver civic elections that we have urged our civic government to let
Vancouverites have a say on the issue of keeping whales in captivity.

In 1993, a Zoo Referendum asked Vancouverites what they thought, and a
majority voted to phase out the wildlife exhibits in Stanley Park.

Public opinion was also instrumental in closing down the orca whale tank
in 2001. However, 5 belugas and 3 dolphins remain captive in Stanley Park
and they need our help.

With civic elections only a year away, and yet another baby whale dying
last month - making her the 36th cetacean victim to die at the Vancouver
Aquarium - the call for a Whale Referendum is on again.

If you would like to help, please send me a private e-mail and spread the
word!

Thank you!
