A Better Life Dog Rescue: The SPCA's assertion that these 100 slaughtered sled dogs wouldn't have been adoptable is absurd

I am the founder of a local dog rescue, A Better Life Dog Rescue. We have rescued and rehomed a dozen sled dogs over the past couple of years. Contrary to what the SPCA is claiming, sled dogs are far from unadoptable. Certainly they are shy and unsocialized and some may need rehabilitation. But all of our rescued sled dogs have been successfully adopted into loving homes.

The SPCA's assertion that these 100 slaughtered sled dogs wouldn't have been adoptable is absurd and is an attempt to make them appear less responsible for having denied helping these dogs. Surely if Michael Vick's pitbulls who were trained to fight can be rehabilitated sled dogs who are just unsocialized can be rehabilitated.

If the reason the SPCA turned their backs on these dogs is because they didn't have any place to put all these dogs, they could have reached out to local rescue organizations like ours for help. But the SPCA rarely seeks assistance from private organizations and prefers to stand alone. And when they do so dogs needlessly suffer and die.

If the sled dog company or the SPCA had reached out to the dog rescue community in BC we would have done everything we could to find each and every dog a home. We would not have turned our back on them as the SPCA did.
