Animal Advocates Watchdog

Can you help to save the life and leg of wee JD? *PIC*

Hello,

I'm a Registered Animal Health Tech at a Veterinary Hospital in Campbell River. A local citizen found found this little dog hit by a car last night. He brought the dog to our clinic this morning. He received pain medication and xrays and we found that his radius and ulna are broken very close to the carpus joint. We have splinted his leg to provide some support and comfort. Do to the nature of his injury, he needs surgery to repair this break. This is not a surgery that our doctors perform.

We contacted the SPCA and they are willing to take the dog but only for 4 days. If no one claims him, he will be euthanized. They said they cannot afford to fix his leg as their monthly budget is too small. As of this afternoon, no one has reported this dog missing.

My employer is willing to hold this little guy for a few days in hopes that someone will be able to take him in and have his leg fixed. Myself and the staff are donating our time to care for him over the next couple days.

I have named him JD (John Doe). He looks to be 1 - 1/2 yrs old. He is not neutered. He weighs 22lbs. He is a bit thin but generally in good health other than his leg. He is nervous but given his pain level I'm not surprised. He has not tried to bite. Given that he is not neutered and no one has reported him missing, I'm guessing his owners will not opt to do the surgery if they come forward.

If you are able to take in this little guy, have him fixed and find him a forever home please email me or call my cell at 250-204-1034. I am willing to drive him to wherever needed.

Thank you for your time,
Nicole Emery, RAHT

(please feel free to pass this on to anyone who you think may be able to help.)
