All over BC, the small, no-kill groups pay for true humane animal welfare out of their own pockets and by working hard for every penny. They do not kill for a 'lack of resources'; they raise the money and they spend it on the animals they have dedicated themselves to, not on rich salaries and p.r.

In one BC city a true no-kill group trapped feral cats and kittens behind a hotel, rescued them all, and paid all their vet and food bills. The hotel did not make a donation to this group but it did make a generous donation to the local SPCA's Paws for a Cause fundraiser.

Worse... in this town, the SPCA had only stopped selling sexually intact cats this year, so the abandoned cats and kittens behind the hotel could very well be SPCA cats.

See what we mean? This has to change. The SPCA sends people to other groups who refuse to kill the animals the SPCA sends it, while the SPCA kills animals for easily-treated conditions, continues to sell intact animals and rakes in most of the money.

How many cats did the Maple Ridge SPCA just kill? How many this year? How many in the past ten years? All questions that animal-lovers and SPCA supporters deserve answers to. The SPCA has a duty to its donators to give those answers. It has a duty to its donators to tell them for what reasons it kills animals. It has a duty to its donators to tell them how much money its head office staff and managers make. But it is silent on all these issues.
