Many organic Farms have chickens that run free. Those are the true "Free Run Chickens"
I have kept free run chickens myself in the past. Chickens will lay eggs, it is natural for them to do so. And when they start to slow with egg laying, they are allowed to live out their natural life running free. In many places chickens are given names and are pets.
Even if I wanted to kill one, by the time they stop laying, they would be too tough to eat, not that I ever would.
