Cat torture case

"In May 2001, Jesse Power and Anthony Wennekers subjected a stray cat to
unbelievalbe terror. The police, acting on a tip, discovered a videotape in a
Toronto home, along with animal bones and a cat's skinned and decapitated body
draped over a coat hanger in the refrigerator. The tape showed Power and
Wennekers hanging the cat by a telephone cord, impaling her to a wall, kicking
her, slitting her throat, stabbing her repeatedly, opening and skinning her
belly, tearing her ear off with pliers and removing her eye with a dental tool -
all the while she was still ALIVE and sentient. The tape reduced the packed
courtroom to tears.

For their role in this horrific act, Judge Ormston gave Power a sentence of
only 90 days in jail (to be served on weekends) followed by a period of house
arrest and probation. The Judge considered the 10 months that Wennekers had
spent in jail before sentencing as time served and freed him. Explaining his
decision, the judge stated that this "was not the worst offence possible".

The decision to appeal by the Crown Attorney will be decided soon. Our
Canadian legal system determines sentencing largely based on precedent. It is
imperative that you write and urge an appeal of the sentence so that this
lenient sentence does not become a precedent setting case. This would be
TRAGIC! Please write the crown attorney's office, and urge him to launch an
appeal:

Professional, dignified and polite letters should also be sent to Judget
Ormston, expressing concerns about this lenient sentence:
