$35,000 raised by Victoria SPCA supporters. Where has it gone?

On Oct. 19, 2003 the Victoria SPCA held its "Dogs on Dallas" Walkathon and raised approximately $35,000.

What is the $35,000 going to be used for and who is going to determine how it is spent? The understanding Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders were left with after discussions with those at the local shelter is that the money in its entirety has gone to the BC SPCA head office in Vancouver.

In AnimalSense Fall 2003 the BC SPCA Walkathon was described as "THOUSANDS OF DOGS AND THEIR GUARDIANS PARTICIPATED in the BC SPCA"S ANNUAL WALKATHON, on September 7, to raise funds to help homeless, abandoned and abused animals in their communities."

Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders support wholeheartedly the activities at the local SPCA shelter to provide remediation, foster care, and medical care for the animals in their guardianship and this is why we are writing in hopes you will give us the opportunity to inform the general public that if they want to donate to the local branch of the BC SPCA they must be very specific in how their donations are made.

However, we also want to take the time to remind the general public that there are other non- profit societies in Victoria who spend 100% of all monies donated directly on the animals in Victoria. V.O.C.A.L. who are having a book sale on November 14th, Victoria Cat Rescue Corp who assist low-income people and their pets with emergency medical help and assistance with spay and neuter, Dee's Orphan Kitten Fund who selflessly help so many orphaned kittens every year and save their lives when virtually no one else could, and lastly ourselves, Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders who provide with the help of many dedicated veterinarians low-cost or in emergency situations free spay and neuter assistance to low-income, or homeless people and their pets.GVAC also assists in cases of emergency with medical assistance to help end suffering.

The animals in Victoria hope you will continue to donate to help them as there is still much to be done and on behalf of them we thank you.

Why were the Walkathon donations transfered to Vancouver and why aren't they being used for Nanook's surgery?
