Why were the Walkathon donations transfered to Vancouver and why aren't they being used for Nanook's surgery?

Dear Editor:
The Victoria SPCA recently held a Dog Walkathon to raise funds and did so, $35,000. I understand that this money, raised for the Victoria shelter, has been transfered to the Vancouver Head Office of the BC SPCA.

I had a notice from the Victoria SPCA today regarding a dog named Nanook. He needs surgery on one of his legs, possibly an amputation, that will cost approximately $3,000. The SPCA is asking the general public for donations towards his surgery.

Why were the Walkathon donations transfered to Vancouver and why aren't they being used for Nanook's surgery? Answers SPCA, please!!
