DOGS ARE FREEZING - It's time to stop the SPCA's spin machine: What education? SPCA employee tells the public to get it from the AAS web site *LINK*

The BC SPCA implies, through its mouthpiece Lorie Chortyk, that it has a humane education program directed at dog chainers. We can't find any proof of any real education on anything by the SPCA, unless you count a few visits to schools with captive rabbits in cages, where children are told that it is okay with the SPCA to keep captive rabbits in cages, as humane education - and we don't. Yes, the SPCA has some glossy brochures (mostly lifted from other organizations) that offend no one by telling the grim truth, cute poems and such.

If the SPCA has one single handout on the inhumanity of isolation, we have never seen one. Recent checks of branches have not found one. Ironically, one AAS member who asked at his local branch for a handout to give his dog-chaining neighbour was told that the SPCA had no material on that subject, but to go to the AAS web site because it had lots of really useful information. Perhaps Ms Chortyk should be reading our web site too and telling the media that the real education is being done by AAS.

In the summer of 2001, after AAS presented the City of Vancouver with its chained dog report "IT'S TIME!", and the City told the SPCA to bloody well do something, the SPCA promised the City that it would start "educating". Then the City and the SPCA all beamed and shook hands, and went back to business as usual, and even now, two and a half years later, there is not one damned brochure, even in English much less any other language, that we can find. The SPCA has spent itself into a multi-million dollar hole, but education isn't guilty of being one of the drains on its finances.
