SPCA IGNORES HUGE PUPPY MILL OPERATION IN BC - ANGRY CITIZEN FORCED TO SEEK HELP OF TAX AUDITOR TO SHUT MILL DOWN

The BC SPCA has received numerous complaints about a large scale puppy mill operation in this province for at least three years that we know of. It has paid at least one visit to this mill as recently as last summer, and still tells complainants that it does not have enough evidence to seize dogs.

We have received written reports that describe the conditions of neglect that were ongoing and evident. We have received reports from numerous sources who indicate a lack of proper heating in winter, and of cooling in summer. As well, our sources have reported lack of adequate nutrition as well as lack of proper veterinary care.

Okanagan Animal Welfare Foundation investigated this puppy mill in 2002, and gave our evidence to BC SPCA General Manager of Cruelty Investigations Craig Daniell in January of 2003. That was a over a year ago, and the BC SPCA is still telling an exasperated public that it doesn't have enough evidence. Furthermore, reliable sources tell us that the SPCA's own employees have lodged complaints about this puppy mill. We were also told it is well-known that this breeder is litigious by reputation with the money for lawyers.

But one good citizen got fed up with waiting for the SPCA to get its act together, and has sought recourse with a provincial tax auditor.

This puppy miller advertises regularly in a local newspaper, and Animal Advocates Society of B.C has been tracking these ads for over a year now, and has entered them into its Breeder's Database. The Database shows that this puppy miller is making as much as $120,000 a year, and possibly more, on the sale of puppies.

Thanks to the Animal Advocates Society's Breeder's Database, the provincial auditor is able to extrapolate income information that may shut this puppy mill down.

It is a sad day for the animals in this province when concerned animal lovers have to rely on the taxman to stop the cruelty that the BC SPCA ignores.

Who gets raided, ruined, and criminalized.... and who doesn't?
Has the BC SPCA ever reported puppymills to Revenue Canada or Provincial auditors, and if not, why not?
