I phoned as a potential adopter today and confirmed that Kamloops SPCA still doesn't s/n prior to adoption. They give out s/n certificates. I guess that makes us a "remote community" like the Queen Charlottes.

As far as the SPCA providing medical care...I have adopted numerous seriously injured/ill cats recently, some directly from isolation for the bargain price of $1.00. My vet bills are sky high without any hope of public donations. To add insult to injury, the SPCA has the nerve to ask me to sign an adoption agreement giving them the right to inspect the animals in my home!!!!! (section 8 adoption agreement)

I have adopted: an unspayed cat December 8/03, unneutered male cat November 2/03, unneutered male cat October 23/03.

My SPCA adoption contract (for the unaltered female cat) dated December 8/03 reads in part:

#2. I will have this animal spayed or neutered by a qualified veterinarian within appropriate time limits as indicated by the spay/neuter program of this Branch. If the operation is not performed within those time limits, all monies deposited by the adopter with the SPCA become forfeit and the animal may be reclaimed by the SPCA.

Over the past 6 years they have only followed up on one animal by phone to ensure that he had indeed been neutered.

#10. I understand that the society accepts no responsibility for the present or future condition of the animal, or any action or behaviour of the animal.

I suppose this clause exempts them from having to provide the same medical care that the Merrit Humane Society didn't provide for their animals? I am confused.....

I have witnessed animals being shuffled within the shelter to hide them from the manager, others have been sneaked out the back door by paid employees that have taken a shine to them. God help the animals that are not particularly liked. They usually don't live long in Kamloops. The decisions to kill or let live are often based on a personal like/don't like bias.
I know....I have six of them that are alive today as a direct result of employee/volunteer meddling.

Euthanizing the SPCA is compassionate thing to do
The only hope left is for the President and the CEO to be replaced by people who are more principled
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
The CEO speaks for himself and proves our concerns that he is not the right person to lead the SPCA
Will the Sun print this bizarre letter from the CEO? The plot sickens.....
