The SPCA's killing cannot end as long as the SPCA is a black hole for pet owners to dump their pets down

All the long, shameful history of the SPCA's cruelty to animals and its fraudulent misrepresentation to the public to get funds is caused by one bad policy: unlimited surrender.

The SPCA's killing cannot end as long as the SPCA is a black hole for pet owners to dump their pets down.

The AAS website and this messageboard has posted many times on the corruption that must accompany a policy of taking every animal that anyone wants to get rid of. It is not humane, and not one real animal welfare practices unlimited surrender. They say No when they are full and when there are no more resources to truly shelter and rehabilitate a homeless animal.

So why does the SPCA take every animal? The answer is simple, and as we said, it cannot be about animal welfare or compassion because so many of the surrendered animals must be killed. It is because busy shelters are a sure-fire donation draw. It's about the money.

Unlimited surrender encourages a culture of pet dumping...better minds than ours have written extensively on this subject for decades, and many of these articles are reproduced on this board. It is not rational to believe that the SPCA has not known for decades that its policy has meant it must keep killing thousands of unwanted pets a year, and that by having a policy of unlimited surrender, it assures itself of an endless, lucrative pet reselling/disposal business. The policy is deliberate, cruel, corrupting, and must end. The SPCA has done everything it can to protect itself, from ad campaigns urging people to buy more dogs as lifestyle accessories, to having pet selling competitions between its branches. Sell more, sell faster, have blow-out sales of innocent creatures, sell to anyone with the money, sell them sick and diseased, do whatever it takes to sell more innocents, instead of stopping the source of all the dumped pets. That is what past and current SPCA boards of directors and executives chose to do: the right thing for the bottom line instead of the right thing for animals.
