Zeus was tattooed in the daughter's name

E.N. of North Vancouver has written to tell us that her daughter says that Zeus was neutered and tattooed in her name and that she was not phoned by the SPCA to say that her dog was being surrendered.

This is very familiar behaviour by the SPCA. The number of stories of the SPCA killing an illegally surrendered dog is legion. The brutal indifference is an old story. The easy disposal of Zeus is the way the business of pet disposal works. And the BC SPCA has been in the pet disposal business for fifty years at least.

Zeus's life was one of loneliness, depressing boredom, bereft of love and fun, and probably full of fear, and then he was killed. Only by remembering Zeus and never giving up the fight to make the SPCA reform can his life have any meaning, and we intend to do that. His name is added to the hundreds of others that we know personally of that the SPCA killed so casually, and to the list of tens of thousands that we didn't know personally, but in whose memory we do what we do.
