She remains in poor health, but an outpouring of community support is making life much more bearable for a severely malnourished and neglected Doberman puppy dropped off at the Surrey SPCA last week.
"The response has been phenomenal," said Kim Archibald, branch manager at the local animal shelter. "We've had donations coming in from as far away as Texas for her."
The SPCA put out the call for contributions after the dog, estimated to be no more than six months old, was brought in suffering from rickets and an advanced case of demodetic mange (a skin irritation caused by mites), leaving her with little fur.
Because the pup was so malnourished, donations of high-quality wet dog food were requested.
Archibald said on top of the "tonnes and tonnes" of food donated by the public and food supply companies, the community has provided other comforts for the pooch.
"We've had children come in with little gift packages for her," she said. "We had a crate donated, blankets, and even doggy pajamas to help keep her skin from being exposed."
Archibald said while the young dog is doing better, she's still in rough shape. Call the SPCA at 604-597-5637 for further information

And hidden in the back, in a rundown cell, Willy awaits his end along with so many others not chosen to raise funds....

Sharp, shifty, shameful, and very much the SPCA's style
