Letter sent to the Times Colonist today:

I applaud the Victoria branch of the BC SPCA for putting a dog’s welfare ahead of the Va’s by refusing to adopt a dog to them because of the type of environment the dog would be exposed to.

In addition, Ms. Va would do well to remember that it is not a “right” for her or anyone else to have a pet, it is a responsibility which continues for the animal’s whole life – a life that is not to be discarded when the pet is no longer cute, needs medical attention, or becomes too difficult to handle due to lack of proper training.
