letter to Mr. Brimacombe re the Maple Ridge SPCA

June 3, 2002

Dear Mr. Brimacombe:

You have neither responded to my concerns nor acknowledged them. I have to assume that you don't intend to. With no response, I can only assume you think I'll eventually go away when I get nowhere. This appears to be the modus operandi of the SPCA executive. However honourable your intentions may be, this is the impression created. But having seen what I've seen within the SPCA system, I can't rest until I've done whatever I can about the problems. This is as tiresome for me as it must be for you but I can't just go away.

I understand that change takes time. However, it's been many months since the public consultation process concluded, and many, many months since you received the first of several anguished letters from volunteers and supporters. There could be no confusion about the priorities, no lack of knowledge of the problems. So I don't understand why the basics of food, water, shelter or medical care could still be found to be lacking. For the price of one consultant, a lot of basic, concrete improvements could be made.

Please understand, I'm not motivated by malice or any other irrational drive; I am a reasonable, intelligent person who cares about animals, and there are a lot of people like me. If more of them could see some of what I've seen, perhaps they might feel the way I do: that the SPCA could and should do better. Perhaps they'll let you know that.
