IPPL founder, Dr Shirley McGreal, awarded OBE *LINK* *PIC*

People interested in the welfare of primates will be pleased to know that
Dr. Shirley McGreal, founder of International Primate Proection League,
has received the Order of the British Empire for her
service towards the protection of primates.
She will have to learn to curtsey at Buckingham Palace!

The Order of the British Empire recognises distinguished service to the arts
and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with
charitable and welfare organisations of all kinds.
It is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed to an individual by the
Queen.

Sincere congratulations to Shirley for her tireless efforts on behalf of
primates worldwide.

Many animals have had their lives helped by Shirley's work on international
smuggling and trade issues. Getting a primate export ban in India was a
highlight of Shirley's work and enabled many animals to remain exactly where
they should be- living wild and free and not in laboratories. Shirley has a
special love of gibbons. Her gibbon facility is wonderfully maintained and
well-staffed. Many overseas groups struggling with rescue facilities have
been helped by IPPL for many years. Prince Philip has been interested in
IPPL and has supported Shirley in her work, especially with international
trading issues.

Congratulations, Shirley! Also congratulations to the many people who have
helped Shirley over the years.
