I think there is something inherently wrong with accepting the slaughter of healthy horses as a long-term solution, simply because there are too many of them.

Is it better that they be humanely put down rather than slowly starve and suffer? Of course. However, we should not be satisfied with this option for long... not long at all.

Perhaps this situation will shine a bright light on the suffering of horses in general and rather than bemoaning the loss of slaughter houses, we as a society will take a look at the true root of the problem.
