The first nation has sold out to the Great White Hunter

Sheep hunt tag goes for $315,000 (Star, Feb. 27).

Kluane Game Sanctuary is a misnomer, since now money talks. The head of a future victim went for $315,000.

It goes to tell you what kind of society we live in if someone is willing to pay this kind of money to murder a mature sheep, a sheep that will not have the right to live out his life in a natural way, even though he lives in a sanctuary. A sanctuary is supposed to be a place of refuge and protection. Is it not?

Congratulations to the Kluane First Nation: you have just sold out to the Great White Hunter. Again. I would have hoped that, at the very least, Kluane First Nation people would be the first to recognize the inherent right of the sheep to live and die without having his body parts immortalized on the wall of a rich American. Is this another classic case of "stewardship," where the life of an animal is preserved until a monetary value is put on his head?

Now that the murder of an animal is permitted in a game sanctuary, animals have nowhere else to go; there is nowhere left on this planet for any animal to be free from human interference and manipulation.

The North American Wild Sheep Foundation's proceeds from this $315K tag supposedly go to promote conservation. Talk about the arrogance of "wildlife management". Where would these animals be if it wasn't for us? Animals don't need us to manage them. They need us to leave them alone, unless we are protecting them and their habitat.

How would the people who promote the execution of this animal view the same behaviour from another species, i.e. human body parts collected and displayed in the den of a non-human species?

Welcome to the real world, the human world, where only the human species has such macabre tastes in home decorating.

What is it with you guys; can't you please a woman? Or is your lust to kill a greater urge?

Praise the animals, the victims of human savagery!

Imagine what could be done with Mr. Leech's $315,000 if he made a serious commitment to conservation
