Eileen Drever said, "These were very, very old dogs."

General Jackson was, in dog years, very, very old. That's not all he was. He was also very, very intelligent. He was also dropped off at The Vancouver Pound because he had a growth on his tail.

He came and lived with me and, because he was such an amazing being, a quality he had gained through his advance through his years, he changed my life in some remarkable ways. He is still teaching me eleven years after his death. I cannot describe him fully because he was too much to describe. What I can tell you is that when he decided it was time to eat, he would pick up his dish, find me and drop it at my feet. He let some pups we were fostering know what was right and what was wrong by barking at them in a unmistakable manner. And the pups knew! When he wanted to drink from the toilet, he would lift the lid, have his drink and then put the lid down. A few weeks before he died, he and I were sitting on the deck about seven feet apart. I had a tennis ball for some reason and I threw it to him. He caught it. And, to my amazement, through it back to me. That's what The General was like!

We have no idea what the condition of these elderly dogs was. The old lady who bred them made a good and valid point when she indicated that she would not like to be euthanized. There is a great deal of valuable information there, if anyone cares to examine it.

Killing for being too old is a very dangerous option for society. Whoever the being happens to be!

When you commit to looking after someone you just don't stop because it is inconvenient
