Evidence-based medicine:

A great deal of our evidence-based medicine comes from clinical trials that are carried out on animals and then applied to humans. That the genetic structures between species may vary greatly is never emphasized. Most of our evidence-based medicine has an historical frame of reference accrued during the last one hundred years.

The ancient people that we now refer to as the Chinese began using acupuncture three thousand years ago. That's a fairly extensive clinical trial. It was generally used on humans. Up until the last ten years that usage has largely continued primarily on humans. Now it is being used on other species, with beneficial results.

Without going into detail, I know of three cases where evidence-based medicine was of no use whatsoever: myself, my son and Foxie (a border collie cross). In these cases I both felt and witnessed the benefits of non-evidence based medicine.

If anyone thinks that evidence-based medicine (whatever that is) has all, or even a majority of answers, that person should really do some investigative work.
