Deer have become destructive pests

Re: 'Fear deer, not bears; Collision with deer is a far greater threat than being gobbled by hungry predators' (Daily News, May 9).
Before I read this story, I downloaded information about how to make a slingshot. I am fed up with Nanaimo's overpopulation of deer. At dawn, I chased three large deer into the yard behind us and they watched me wave my arms and bark like a dog. I chucked a stone at them and they sauntered to the road to stand like statues.
Both Banff and Jasper relocate deer. Why isn't Nanaimo taking them more seriously? We knew of a homeowner in Jasper who butchered deer in his basement.
This is likely done here but not enough. Venison is very delicious. Nanaimo should relocate, cull, or bring in the cougars. Because, like the girls at Art Knapp Nursery say, "Nothing will deter them this year as they are eating everything."
And this is maddening. There is lots of greenery beyond Nanaimo.
Residents shouldn't have to replace fruit trees, shrubs, garden food plants, and build high fences to keep them out.
Our vehicle insurance is high enough without paying for collisions with deer jumping off embankments in front of cars.
They have become pests.
