So they are happy, happy, until the axe falls
In Response To: I get my eggs locally ()

I live on someone else's farm and have no say in the farming practices.
We have both free-range chickens and roosters (much to the detriment of my sleep).
They seem to be happy.
BUT, at whim, the chickens are killed for someone's belly, as are the roosters.
The roosters are also killed if they do not do their "job" of protecting the chickens, or if they are too aggressive, or if there are too many of them.
So they are happy, happy, until the axe falls, and I once saw it take four attempts to sever the head from the body of one unfortunate bird.
I don't eat the eggs of these, or any other chickens.
I think it must be an extremely rare farm that never kills either the hens or the roosters, and even if I knew of such a place, I would not eat the eggs - as far as I can tell from the hen's point of view, she did not produce them for my consumption.
