I noticed on the CKNW radio show today, that the BCSPCA had their "UBC Cat Expert" speaking about dog attacks. Nadine Gourkow knows little to nothing about dogs, and her comments reflected that. She mentioned a study on dog bites, that shows the majority of bites come from socialized pets. The incident in Vancouver yesterday was not the type of dog bite that should be categorized within the statistics Gourkow spoke of, where a family pet bites the hand of a child who's teasing it.Yesterday's was a dog mauling, which is far more serious, and there are reports that show a direct link between de-socialized yard dogs and these types of attacks.Either Gourkow does not understand the study, or the BCSPCA does not want the public to understand it, because it would put pressure on them to lobby for laws to prevent de-socialized dogs in the first place. Not to worry though BCSPCA, AAS is doing your job for you and has already got the ball rolling, again.
