From BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell's first major public statement as CEO of the BC SPCA in June 2003:
"We have also dramatically increased our cruelty investigation activities, increased our humane education and volunteer support presence, and implemented a moratorium on euthanasia followed by our Companion Animal Management Program to ensure that every animal that enters one of our shelters gets the best possible chance for a good life. We cannot lose sight of the fact that we accomplish miracles every single day in our shelters."
Only the first part of that statement is true, and even it does not tell in what dishonest ways the SPCA is using and misusing the PCA Act. It is using it to "get" the competition - other, much cleaner, more humane organizations, and to get its critics on trumped up charges.
The praise of CAMP is particularly galling to those who know that it is being used to justify killing excess dogs and that it is being largely ignored in branches that are not willing to use it that way.
Education is still of the "let the kids poke rabbits in cages" variety.
There is no moratorium on euthanasia. End of sentence.
Sick animals are being sold "as is" or killed, as many posts on this board prove.
Volunteers feed AAS information on the atrocities they witness in the branches.
And the miracle in the branches is that any animals survive being "sheltered" by the SPCA, where disease is rife, indifference is openly seen, where the SPCA's unlimited surrender policy and pound contracts mean that healthy animals are crowded in with sick animals, where isolation drive animals mad, for which fault they are labelled unadoptable and killed.
