"Animal Advocates Society fully supports a ban, based on the Winnipeg model, of pit bulls and other man-stopper breeds of dogs."
Unfortunately I do not have a better solution.
The city of Vancouver and the SPCA are not protecting the dogs or the humans by allowing backyard dogs to suffer. Many of these dogs through no fault of their own are now incredibly dangerous and what is to be done for them?
Very few people will invest $500 per month or more to rehab them for upwards a year but AAS does for some of their dogs.
Allowing backyard breeding of potentially dangerous dogs is not the solution and obviously no one is willing to tackle the problem of unlicensed breeders and yet something has to be done.
Humans are being injured and dogs are truly suffering....if someone has an answer that will truly fly and a way to make it fly I would love to hear it.
Until then I must support the grandfathering of gentle power breeds and the banning of any further breeding throughout the province including on the reserves.
Unless the whole province is involved nothing will change in my opinion and the whole process is a waste of time.
