SPCA honours donors' wishes

Re: "SPCA unveils efforts to reduce shelter noise," Oct. 22.
The story raises the question of whether funds specifically designated for the Victoria shelter are used outside the capital region.
The B.C. SPCA honours the wishes of every donor who designates his or her gift for a specific purpose or location. This is true in the capital region as it is in every community where the SPCA operates.
The confusion may arise in that some donors living in Victoria and elsewhere in B.C. make undesignated gifts to the B.C. SPCA so that their money can be used anywhere in the province to help animals, depending on where the need is most urgent. Rather than funds leaving the community, the Victoria branch will, in fact, draw on undesignated money from other communities this year to offset its own $500,000 operating deficit.
SPCA supporters in the capital region can be assured that any money they designate for use in their community will stay here to help animals in need.
