What a disappointment - Clayton Ruby is just another rube! He fell for the old "five pound Pomeranian kills child" defence of pit bulls. But it wasn't a child that the Pom killed, it was a six week-old newborn, and a cat or rat or bird can kill a newborn, but no one is asking to ban cats or rats or birds so Mr Ruby's logic is not logical. Pit bulls are a proven public danger, and are now so numerous that society is going to take steps to protect itself. And it isn't going to spend millions trying to make pit bull owners behave better either while the pit bull poplation and attacks escalate.
There is a right to own guns that are meant for peaceful purposes. But there is no more inherent right to own a dog breed to fight to the death than there is to own an AK47.
Professor Stanley Coren, best selling author of books on dogs says, " Even scientists are amazed at how much of a dog's behaviour is genetically controlled." That is why, without being trained or taught, hounds track, herders herd, and retrievers retrieve. Mr Ruby is denying a thousand years of proof that dogs can be bred to single-minded traits. Fighting breeds fight - to the death.
Has Mr Ruby thought this through? Who has he been listening to? Wait til he meets some real pit bull owners - they tend not to be the type of person Mr Ruby would invite home for dinner.
